One common misconception from first-time bloggers is that there can only be a few blogs writing about the same “stuff,” and that as an individual, you cannot have multiple blogs about quite similar subjects. These two topics are often discussed, and unless you live in a world where there is no competition, they do not hold true.
As a prime example, if there was only one company controlling all the news around the world, we would all think alike and wouldn’t be opinionated. Instead, there are thousands, if not millions of people (with blogs and other online communications) that allow our views to be expressed.
Similarly, if there was a restriction on the number of blogs in the ‘marketplace’, very few would have ever considered starting a blog in the first place. It is the unique factor that each author brings to the table that makes the blogosphere a distinctive community.
For this reason, if you feel so passionately about a subject, you can create multiple blogs about it. Now, keep in mind that it will be more difficult if you don’t branch out and cover single subjects that are apart of the main niche, so your blogs don’t counteract each other (should you be able to gain search engine dominance).
Take a look at many blog networks. While they might be branded as having a diverse network of sites, instead, there are several main categories within that brand that can all be connected together to form a “web” that readers visit daily for news, tips, and information.
I’m thinking of the pros and cons of having multiple blogs/sites within the same niche. We will discuss about it on another post
Have a nice weekend, folks!
